It is evident from the character of the architecture that the church was built as a manorial church, i.e. that it was part of a mansion. It is still unclear who the lord of the mansion was, as this has not been documented archaeologically to this day. The exact timing of the construction of the church is also unknown at this point. While the sculptures date back to approximately 1240, the building is probably even older. The Church of St. Nicholas attracts attention with its striking roof of a later origin, and mainly with its unusual shape and the intact Romanesque architecture that has been preserved. The floorplan featuring a square nave with a polygonal apse is also unusual. The portal with numerous jambs, columns and figural relief in the tympanum is the main decoration of the church. A cornice with an arc frieze and a round window with a simple rosette are above the portal. The apse decoration with colonnettes is also unusual. The interior is also decorated. The nave tribune opens with an arc with paired windows and rich decoration.
