In the mid-13th century, the stone castle was constructed on a promontory above the confluence of the Jizera and Klenice Rivers.
Before 1334, the Castle was owned by the Lords of Michalovice who completely reshaped it. The Castle has undergone changes of appearance over the centuries. The current appearance originates from the second half of the 18th century when the Castle was converted into military barracks. Today it houses the Museum of the Mladá Boleslav Region (Muzeum Mladoboleslavska) and the State District Archives (Státní okresní archiv).
