The triangular layout of the Square follows the shape of the original medieval marketplace. It is dominated by the Renaissance Town Hall with a corner tower, open to the public.
Near the First Republic-style Věnec Hotel is the Plague Column, just a few metres from the improvised Jizera riverbed; this is a symbol of the reconstruction of the Old Town Square in 2010. Willows bending over the replica of the river, themed sculptures, a colourful fountain and interactive children's playgrounds in both the park and underground areas of the parking garage are just a small taste of what can be seen here.
Leisure Time Centre
The Leisure Centre on the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), which includes a small interactive park above the parking garage and unconventional entrance building with a dome, was completed in 2014 by opening the basement to the public. The underground labyrinth is entertaining for both children and adults, with imaginative play elements, including stepping boards with sound and visual effects, a mirror system, "ball" pool, slide, climbing wall, rope jungle gym, bowling alley, periscope, etc.
Old Town Hall
The glorious Renaissance Old Town Hall building, constructed between 1554 and 1559, is another creation of Matteo Borgorelli. The façade contains the rich sgraffito decoration of biblical and antique motifs. The interior boasts a decorated vaulted boardroom ceiling. The current shape of the tower used for observation originates from 1779. The original building was reconstructed in the middle of the 19th century and completed with the side and rear wings between 1939 and 1941.
