The central building on Republic Square (nám. Republiky) was the Regional Courthouse newly built in 1928.
The monument of Miroslav Tyrš was located in front of the Courthouse. Prefabricated construction works were started at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The Miroslav Tyrš statue was replaced by a statue of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and the Square was named after this Soviet ruler. However, after the Velvet Revolution, the newest square in Mladá Boleslav underwent many changes. It was renamed, the architecture became more aesthetic and green areas were extended. The location is popular among Czech and foreign filmmakers, thanks to a former prison in the Courthouse, the entrance of which is guarded by two Czech lions. Among the foreign films shot in the surroundings of the judicial prison, probably the best-known are the biographical: "Hitler: Rise of Evil" and also "Mission Impossible 4" with Tom Cruise in the leading role. With regard to Czech films, the popular films: "Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále", "Lidice" and the war drama, "I ve smrti sami", are worth mentioning.
