Metal Trail

Unusual sculptures made of metal were created in front of the eyes of the general public by Ian Gill and Gavin Foskett from England (Out of Balance), Nedim Hadziahmetovic from Serbia (Voice), Risto Immonen from Finland (Bow) and Tim Roosen from Belgium (King of the Castle). Czech smithcraft was represented at the Symposium by Petr Vaněk (Václav Laurin).

This year, the participation of three Czech woodcarvers was innovative and interesting. They were Romana Krestýnová (Pan Lavička - Mr. Bench), Martin Kučera (Prkna, Která Znamenají Svět - All the World's a Stage) and Jan Švadlenka (Šašek a Královna - The Jester and the Queen). Their works in the Symposium were created on the theme of Theatre. The fascinating transformation of massive log rounds into the form of natural benches decorated with theatrical motifs could be observed by visitors during the two days - Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th June.

As an accompanying programme to the Symposium, the folk-rock band Isara provided pleasant entertainment to everybody on the sunny Thursday afternoon. The band's concert, featuring their guest Michal Šnajdr, was held in the park above the parking garage on the Old Town Square. Isara provided visitors with a top-quality cultural experience. At the nearby kiosk,  people could enjoy the Signal Radio barbecue party.

The 2016 Metal Symposium culminated on Friday 10th June. All the works were exhibited in the Olympia shopping centre from Monday 13th June; they were then later complemented by panels of photographs. These documented the works of artists both this year as well as in all the previous years of the Symposium.

As with the works of art from past years, this year's works will also expand the existing Mladá Boleslav Gallery located in the public area. The benches made by the woodcarvers will soon be located in the park of the Exhibition Area; an appropriate location for the metal sculptures is still under negotiation.
