This year again, the unique international meeting of artist-blacksmiths and sculptors was held in Mladá Boleslav.
The 2017 Metal Symposium again provided the opportunity to watch live the birth of impressive works made of various metals. The Symposium took place on the premises of the industrial School from 12th to 16th June 2017. Just like last time, it was also attended by woodcarvers, who explored the theme of "Baroque" this year: Romana Krestýnová, Martin Kučera and Václav Lemon. The following countries sent their artist-blacksmiths this year:
Czech Republic (David Čermák and Vítězslav Bobčík), USA (John Haley III.), New Zealand (Steve Molloy), Brazil (Jorge Schröder), Norway (Tobbe Malm) and Australia (Matt Hill). The sculptures created during the Metal Symposium will again be installed at various locations across the city to extend the unique open-air gallery of Mladá Boleslav.
The accompanying programme was also interesting. Because the Industrial School building, where the Symposium traditionally takes place, was recently declared a National Cultural Monument, many people took this opportunity to view its interiors, guided by Jiří Bartoš Sturz. During the closing ceremony of the Symposium, visitors were catered for at a barbecue prepared by Signal Radio and entertained by a Jazzdance show. The highlight of the event’s last day was the music concert by the popular Sto zvířat band.
As in previous years, all the works of art created during the Metal Symposium were exhibited in the Olympia shopping centre in Mladá Boleslav.
