Metal Trail

The Metal Symposium has gained its reputation among artists as the artists themselves talk about it during similar events and on social networks. This has been evident since artists started to actively enquire about participation, especially during the seventh year. Aleksandr Faley was one of those who contacted us wishing to participate and communicating with him in English was relatively easy.  However, obtaining a proposal for his work was a more complicated matter. He sent us pictures of his previous works to show what we could expect. As he also creates abstract paintings, we could see that he is a versatile artist.

When we wanted to find out about the tools he would be using to prepare everything in advance, he sent us photos and stated that we wanted to create something out of scrap iron. This was no problem since we have access to the SD Kovo scrapyard. When he arrived at the airport, we found out that communicating in English will not be that easy after all. We were surprised since he wrote to us in English perfectly fluently and he explained that his daughter was helping him.

Monday morning tends to be hectic. We organised transfer to the scrapyard for Alexandr Faley. As we arrived, his eyes lit up and he started to collect in particular old car parts. Immediately after returning to the Secondary Industrial School, where the artists create, he started to assemble his catch in an abstract artwork. Luckily, Patrik Rybnický from Slovakia, who was also participating, was there to help us with communication and the worry of the language barrier was no longer there. When we asked Aleksandr Faley about the name of his statue at the end of the symposium, he said the English word “sail” without thinking twice.
