Metal Trail

We found David Čermák from Turnov on Facebook. On his website, we saw a remarkable photo of David Čermák pulling the tail of a metal dog. The statue of the metal dog was very precisely made and we understood that there would be no time for such a kind of work at the Metal Symposium. Still, we invited him.

At first, he was not too enthusiastic about our proposal. He was uneasy about working for a week in an unfamiliarenvironment and didn’t like the idea that his work could fall into private hands. After we guaranteed that this would not be the case, he asked for time to think it over. After a few days, he told us he would attend the Symposium, on condition that he would be able to work together with Vítězslav Bobčík.

We agreed to that and when he sent us a sketch for a statue called "Ants", we were excited. There was only a minor problem with the material, as he required a 2-metre long girder. There was no girder of the required thickness and length to be found in the local scrapyard. Vítězslav Bobčík searched in his surroundings (in Moravia) and managed to find the girder. We agreed that he would bring it at our expense.

David Čermák and Vítězslav Bobčík worked in the school’s cellar, occasionally coming out to see the other artists, for example, when they needed a plasma cutter. The resulting work, called "Ants", depicts three ants who are slowly but surely eating into the aforementioned girder. Eventually, both artists enjoyed the Metal Symposium very much, just as we did.
