Metal symposium 2013
David Szalay, creator of the information panels, became more than just a "panel supplier" over the three-year work on the Metal Trail. He turned out to be a technical advisor as well, being in favour of the idea that the Metal Trail could be further extended by the Metal Symposium. Eventually he became the Symposium’s first participant from the Czech Republic.
Before putting anything in writing, we discussed the tools that were needed for the work to be done. David brought them all himself, so that he could work with all the amenities. Despite the bad weather (which caused flooding one week later), David Szalay worked outdoors in the yard under a tent for the entire week. Some of his techniques inspired another artist at the Metal Symposium – the Dutchman, Joshua Pennings.
Apart from the fact that David Szalay is the creator of the Metal Trail, he is also the creator of a metal inscription at the main entrance to the garden of Dr. Pírek's Clinic and of one interesting sculpture in the Clinic building next to the staircase. His work created within the first year of the Metal Symposium is called “The Fortune Teller” and is now located, together with three other works, in Dr. Pírek's Clinic garden. For possible David Szalay fans, Dr. Pírek's Clinic is a kind of gallery showing diverse works by this artist.
