Metal symposium 2018
Katharina Mörth contacted us through Facebook because she is friends with Steve Molloy’s wife. She liked our event and also wanted to attend. That is why we asked her to send us examples of her work. Her works captivated us by being illuminated. We had not yet had anything like that and such work would greatly enhance our Symposium. As blacksmiths can work here in an unrestricted way, we asked her if she was willing to create something similar for us too. She accepted the invitation with great pleasure.
As we became more familiar with her metalwork, we realised that some of her works were wearable. And so the idea was born to make some wearable metal elements and to display them at a metal fashion show. She liked the idea and agreed. You can read more about the Metal Fashion Show here.
For her work, she needed a metal sheet with perforations – something we had not previously provided. Katharina Mörth is a truly versatile artist. Besides working on her statue, she was also preparing metal clothes for the Metal Fashion Show on the first day of the Symposium. That created some time pressure for her, but she worked hard and managed to make everything on time. So she was able to enjoy with contentment the Tichá dohoda band concert with the other blacksmiths at the end of the Metal Symposium. Interestingly, in the evening her statue called “Dancer” is illuminated by an independently operating solar light.
