John Hogan is not a metal sculptor, but a typical artist-blacksmith who creates wonderful works. We found him after intensive "Googling" and approached him in October 2014. After an initial e-mail and telephone conversation, we sent him our documentation to go through. Shortly afterwards, we agreed to cooperate.
In April, he sent us his sketch. It was a beautiful plant with butterflies. Upon his arrival, he found that there were only coal forges available, which take a long time to heat the metal. He was afraid he would not have his work ready in time. But Jesse Sipola, an artist from Finland who also attended the Symposium, willingly lent him his extraordinarily large gas burner and the problem was solved.
After completing his work, he expressed the wish to have a pedestal made for his statue. With the pedestal produced, the work was exhibited in the Olympia shopping centre along with the other statutes. Later, we coated the work with zinc (moreover, John Hogan wished to paint the plant and the butterflies in different colours). His work, called “My Love Lorraine”, is one that is on temporary display in main corridor of the Claudian Hospital.
