The Belgian artist Thierry Lauwers, who took part in the Metal Symposium in 2015, decided to support us and began to recommend other artist-blacksmiths to us. One of these was Nedim Hadziametovic. We contacted him and were very pleased that he accepted our invitation. Based on the first year’s experience, we decided to define new rules for the creation of works:
the work must be a maximum of 2 metres high
the diameter of the work must not exceed 1.5 metres
the work must be three-dimensional
Of course, if the proposal was really innovative, we were able to make an exception.
Nedim Hadziahmetovic sent us a preliminary sketch of a centaur called “Voice”. We were excited by his proposal and approved it, although the work was more than 2 metres in height and was wider than required. Centaurs are an integral part of Ancient Greek mythology and play a significant role in the collective memory of mankind. Centaurs are, by their very nature, violent mythical creatures, and humans are inherently violent too. This violent behaviour is part of our recorded history, the one we call civilization. At present, we are increasingly exposed to false values, misleading advertising in the media and lies intended to justify government decisions and destroy the core values of humanity. The “Voice” statue criticises both the demagogic populism of governments, as well as the excessive submissiveness of the non-ruling majority, which has lost interest in making this planet a better place and has traded it for the convenience of modern media and technologies. The statue thus "says" a loud "ENOUGH!".
When we were given the list of materials required, we were rather startled, because we had to provide two 80- and 100-litre tanks for heating water. We were able to meet this special request, got the tanks and cleaned them during the Symposium. However, it transpired that Nedim had a different idea (the tanks we provided were more modern than those in Serbia, so they were useless for his work). He needed to solve this problem as quickly as possible, so we had to buy the material. Some of his fellow artists admired how rapidly he was able to adapt and, despite these problems, managed to finish his work in time. The centaur "Voice" was installed in front of the 6th Elementary School in Mladá Boleslav.
