Sjaak Klein Heerenbrink from the Netherlands was one of the 2018 participants. His invitation was arranged at short notice, since another guest had cancelled participation one month before the event. Still, he was willing to come and, moreover, was really enthused by it.
As for the material, he required a round tank with a diameter of 1.5 metres and a height of 3 metres. Unfortunately, such a tank was not available and it was very difficult to obtain in such a short time. Sjaak Klein Heerenbrink was nevertheless so enthusiastic that he suggested bringing his own tank. Last year, the Czech blacksmith Vítězslav Bobčík transported a 2-metre-long girder across the entire country, which we considered to be a fine record. Sjaak Klein Heerenbrink unknowingly broke this record the very next year.
In addition to this requirement, Sjaak Klein Heerenbrink wanted to obtain one additional thick metal sheet. When he arrived at the venue, he had the tank on a trailer behind his car, together with a few examples of his work. He exhibited these works during the Metal Symposium. He started working on the Monday. Conveniently, he had brought his own tools with him and was thus completely independent of the others. On the last day, he mentioned with a sigh that it was a pity he had no chains with him. We asked him for the reason, but he replied that it was not important and that he would somehow manage without them. However, we made every effort to meet his requirements and got the right chains for him. Sjaak Klein Heerenbrink was very excited about that and completed his work successfully. His statue called “Metal Phoenix” is also a barbecue. Thus, it is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also practical and functional.
