Metal Trail

This image was prompted by one of the organiser’s recollection of the April Fool’s Day joke, according to which Škoda Auto has agreed with the city of Prague to extend to underground to Mladá Boleslav. However, coming up with a suitable location for the painting of the underground was not simple. We had our first paintings in the Bondy Centre in 2019, but these were colourful and mostly joyful images. Bondy Centre agreed to painting in the garages and Vladimír Tůma was also willing. We sent the design to the Bondy Centre two months prior to the Metal Symposium, as the design was to be originally implemented in 2020. As they say, every could has its silver lining. After the waiting, the centre came up with the idea to install lights in the place where the underground was to have its headlamps. Therefore, the Bondy Centre has its unique artwork. The painting on the left side shows the Prague underground at its beginning, specifically during the opening in 1973, and on the right side the potential future image of the underground extended from Prague to Mladá Boleslav, including line D, which is currently under construction but not even nearly ready for operation.
